Geographers and Sustainers,
Please see the note below from former AmeriCorps member Marjorie Jerez. Some of you may remember Marjorie from past GIS Day events and from coming to speak to some of our classes. We'll have representatives from the USFS at GIS Day tomorrow so come prepared with questions.

Subject: Forest Service Recent Graduate Positions GS-7 in PA, WI, and WY

Michael,

The USFS posted today Recent Graduate announcement for several GIS Specialists at the GS-7 level.

https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/551343000

“The Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Current students who are scheduled to graduate within nine months may also apply to these positions. However, these students cannot be appointed until after graduation and the official degree has been awarded and conferred.”

Graduate students can apply with no problem as a master’s degree can allow someone to enter the federal government at a GS-9 level. For undergraduates, they will need a combined total of 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. It is imperative that any interested student read through the entire job post as it provides clarification to the kind of specialized experience they are looking for.

I hope you have been well.

Kind regards,

Marjorie
