The Anna Porter Public Library in Gatlinburg, TN nine-member Board of Directors seeks an enthusiastic, visionary, community-minded leader as its next Library Director. The previous Director is retiring after 20 years of service.  The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, exhibit a clear vision and commitment to librarianship, articulate and advocate the Library's strategic directions, provide sound fiscal management and promote collaborative relationships within the Library and throughout the community. The Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has an annual budget of $250K supported by city appropriation.  Support is also provided through grants and donations.  The Anna Porter Public Library is the vibrant center of the Gatlinburg and surrounding communities for self-education, civic engagement, and the free exchange of information and ideas.  The Library serves as a conceptual gateway to entertainment and educational enrichment and a physical destination for information gathering and recreation.   APPL boasts a beautiful modern library building built in spring 2009.  It is a lovely, light airy space with large windows offering sweeping mountain views.
Gatlinburg is a scenic mountain town located in eastern Tennessee.  The town is known as a gateway to the roughly 520,000-acre Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  There are many outdoor activities available in the area, including hiking on 800 miles of trails, river rafting, birdwatching and fishing.   Gatlinburg also boasts a thriving arts and crafts community.  Gatlinburg has a population of about 5,000 and supports a work force of 10,000.  It is located near Knoxville which has many large-city amenities.  The Library is in Sevier County which hosts more than 12 million visitors each year.
Responsibilities. The Director has overall responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of Library operations and services including, but not limited to: budget, personnel, collection development, technical and automation services, facilities, and community relations.  The library has a full and part-time staff of six, including the Director.
Requirements. A Bachelor's Degree or comparable experience is required, along with a minimum of five years of professional library or similar experience. Master of Library Science degree or an equivalent is preferred. Other preferred qualifications include: experience reporting to a governing board, accounting, successful fundraising/grant writing skills, experience working with budgets, and working effectively with government officials and other public constituencies.
