April Classes Spotlight:
Design
Think Your Way to a Better Library
Wednesday, April 24, 2019
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET
This two-hour webinar introduces participants to design thinking through the exploration of a process that begins with an empathic approach to problem finding that leads to a thoughtful
solution. Attendees will gain familiarity with the different phases of the design thinking process through examples of how they are applied in a library environment. While there are other methods leading to decisions for making libraries better, design thinking
lends itself to staff engagement opportunities for collaborative problem finding and solving.
Attendees will spend the first segment of the webinar learning the phases of the design thinking process through a video presentation (viewed in advance) that examines the work of
a design team. This is used to introduce the six phases of the design thinking process. Examples of applications in libraries are used to reinforce how design thinking is applied in practice. In the second segment attendees are introduced to the mechanics
of developing a design challenge. This involves resources to structure and conduct the challenge at your library. This webinar makes use of several activities common to design thinking education.
