Online Learning Librarian

The Online Learning Librarian contributes to the development, curation, and assessment of the University Libraries’ online learning program and participates in instruction and engagement initiatives that advance the teaching and research missions of the Libraries and University. This position works closely with other librarians and staff to select and incorporate e-learning resources for use in hybrid and online learning environments. This position serves as a resource to Libraries’ and campus colleagues by providing guidance and training on best practices in effectively teaching with online resources in a variety of formats, both in-person and online. The successful candidate will apply inclusive pedagogical principles to facilitate the selection and incorporation of resources into instruction and engagement activities for a diverse population of learners. The Online Learning Librarian will take an active role in supporting the Libraries’ contributions to student success initiatives, with a particular focus on open educational resources (OERs) and affordable course materials. This position will collaborate with campus partners, including the Office of Information Technology and academic support units, to support campus e-learning and instructional initiatives and to communicate these initiatives to colleagues. As a member of the Teaching & Learning Programs Department, the librarian will teach information literacy and research instruction sessions; participate in engagement and orientation initiatives; and provide research consultations. The successful candidate will work both collaboratively and independently to meet students and faculty where they are, with a focus on inclusive, user-centered pedagogy.

Specific Duties:

  *   Identify and implement strategies to connect the Libraries’ resources and expertise with teaching and learning needs across disciplines in on-person, online, and blended instructional environments
  *   Serve as a resource to Libraries and campus colleagues to enhance the use of e-learning resources in research and instruction
  *   Curate, promote, and assess e-learning resources in a variety of formats, including open access and subscription-based content
  *   Provide leadership and support for the Libraries’ efforts to advance the adoption, adaptation and creation of open educational resources (OERs) and the accessibility and affordability of instructional materials
  *   Provide training and guidance to UT Libraries’ faculty and staff in the curation and assessment of online learning materials and tools
  *   Create a process for assessment of the Libraries’ online learning programs and resources
  *   Participate in liaison responsibilities to include teaching research and information literacy classes, with a particular focus on General Education classes for early-career undergraduates
  *   Contribute to engagement, orientation, and outreach initiatives; provide research consultation
  *   Serve the library profession through involvement in professional organizations and through cooperative efforts with other information professionals
  *   Engage in scholarly activity through publications and presentations
Required Qualifications:

  *   ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent degree in relevant discipline
  *   Strong commitment to public service
  *   Evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion in a higher education setting
  *   Demonstrated commitment to fostering student learning through inclusive pedagogical practices
  *   Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently to manage projects and initiatives
  *   Professional-level experience teaching or providing support for teaching in online or in-person environment
  *   Knowledge of online accessibility standards and practices
  *   Evidence of ability to engage in research, publication, and service consonant with the University’s and Libraries’ guidelines for promotion and tenure
  *   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

  *   Experience teaching or creating instructional materials in a post-secondary environment
  *   Experience in assessing student learning
  *   Experience developing, incorporating, or working with Open Educational Resources (OERs), open access materials, and online learning objects
  *   Familiarity with learning management systems, content management tools, and/or online educational platforms

Benefits:
Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of $52,000.  Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment.  Library faculty must meet University requirements for promotion and tenure.
