Updating Work Permission/Employment Authorization (12/2018)

When updating work permission for non-citizens, departments should 
complete section 3 of the original I-9 form and obtain a copy of the new d
document showing continued work permission. Only 1 document can be l
listed in section 3.
If the department did not keep a copy of the original I-9, then they can 
contact HR and request a copy of page 2 for completing section 3. If the 
I-9 form is expired then they will need to complete a new I-9 for section 3. T

Departments will enter last name, first name and middle initial (if a
applicable) at the top of Section 2 LEAVING THE C
CITIZENSHIP/IMMIGRATION STATUS FIELD BLANK (ONLY FOR THOSE C
COMPLETING SECTION 3 ON A NEW FORM).
If an employee is updating citizenship status, the employee can volunteer 
to complete a new page 1 of the I-9, but it is not required. Only section 3 o
on page 2 is required to be completed by the employer to establish c

Once section 3 has been completed by the department, the form(s) and 
copy of the new document are then submitted to HR via the 
[log in to unmask] email address for updating the employee records. The 
employee would not be e-verified again, we are only establishing continued wor

*Employees whose immigration status or work permission is changing or e
expiring should complete the paperwork in advance so that continuous e
employment authorization is not interrupted.
