Topic: Enhancing Urban Freight Planning Through Improving Last Mile Delivery

Registration: https://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/fpd/talking_freight/index.htm

Description and Presentations: One of the primary challenges faced by transportation professionals dealing with freight projects is last mile deliveries. In many cases, these deliveries, which are being driven by continuing e-commerce growth, occur in locations that have limited parking availability, were not designed to accommodate frequent deliveries, and often experience significant traffic volumes. Though most last mile delivery issues are tied to truck deliveries, all modes are impacted by the growth of last mile delivery needs. While there are growing challenges associated with last mile freight transportation logistics, the increased focus on last mile deliveries also provide opportunities for both public and private sector organizations to address these problems in multiple ways. In some cases, those organizations can work together to develop innovative solutions for last mile delivery needs.

This webinar will examine what selected private freight carriers, state DOTs, and city governments are doing to address last mile freight delivery needs and develop solutions that work for freight carriers, businesses and e-commerce customers, local governments, and the general public in the areas where last mile freight deliveries are common.
