In many cases, these deliveries, which are being driven by continuing e-commerce growth, occur in locations that have limited parking availability, were not designed to accommodate frequent deliveries, and often experience significant traffic volumes. Though most last mile delivery issues are tied to truck deliveries, all modes are impacted by the growth of last mile delivery needs. While there are growing challenges associated with last mile freight transportation logistics, the increased focus on last mile deliveries also provide opportunities for both public and private sector organizations to address these problems in multiple ways. In some cases, those organizations can work together to develop innovative solutions for last mile delivery needs. This webinar will examine what selected private freight carriers, state DOTs, and city governments are doing to address last mile freight delivery needs and develop solutions that work for freight carriers, businesses and e-commerce customers, local governments, and the general public in the areas where last mile freight deliveries are common. Big Wins for Bi-State Public-Private Partnerships Setting Infrastructure Priorities This presentation will discuss a public-private partnership focused on enhancing railroad interchange traffic and last mile freight railroad movements to promote more efficient freight operations. SPEAKERS: * Mary Lamie, St. Louis Regional Freightway * Michael McCarthy, Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis The Texas Approach to Advancing Last Mile Delivery in Urban Areas This presentation will review how a state DOT is working with local government agencies and private companies to improve last mile freight deliveries throughout its state. SPEAKER: * Caroline Mays, Texas Department of Transportation Freight Cannot Wait: Opportunities to Improve Efficiency of Last Mile Delivery in New York City This presentation will examine how a city DOT is addressing freight deliveries within its jurisdiction and working to maximize the efficiency of those deliveries while minimizing their impact on the surrounding community.
