*Green Infrastructure Research Scientist*

We are looking for an independent, responsible, scientist with a knowledge of hydrology and good people skills to assist in an exciting green infrastructure project.

*The project*

A team of researchers from Brooklyn College, Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, and University of Arizona is working with Earthwatch Institute and the HSBC Sustainability Training Program to carry out citizen science research into the hydrologic function of green infrastructure.  The research team is responsible for supporting one day education and research events where citizen scientists perform rapid green infrastructure assessments across 6 North American Cities: New York City, Buffalo, Toronto, Chicago, Vancouver and San Francisco.

*Responsibilities*

The research scientist will be responsible for:

-          Travel to 11 citizen science events across the study cities
between April and October 2019

-          Organization of field equipment, sensors, and documents for
events

-          Training and supervision of citizen scientists

-          Data organization and data analyses

-          Assembly and waterproofing of microcontroller-based sensors

-          Presentation and publication of research results

*Skills*

The ideal candidate will possess many of the following skills, but these are not requirements:

-          A graduate degree, or current enrollment in a graduate program,
in a relevant scientific field

-          Some experience in field work, teaching, and hydrology

-          Some experience or interest in sensors and electronics

-          An interest in travel

-          Basic data analysis skills

*Details*

The project will end December 31, 2019.  Full-time salary will be $52,000 annually, pro-rated to the time on the project.  Part-time candidates, who can commit to all project travel, will also be considered.  The research scientist will be expected to work from Brooklyn College when not travelling.
