To get to the point, I have recruiters reaching out to me through LinkedIn all the time and while most are dead ends, sometimes the conversations evolve a bit. Last Friday I got a call from someone looking for an entry-level documentation specialist for her client, L3 Technologies. The job summary and required skills are pasted below. Job Summary:
Write, publish and distribute technical documents, including user
manuals, workbooks, reference guides,
release notes, interface documents and service bulletins for software
applications/hardware. Create, format and update marketing materials and
company policy/procedure documentation. Maintain Documentation
Department standards and follow processes throughout
the software development life cycle.
Required Skills, Experience and Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Two-four years of
full-time work experience directly related to developing technical
and/or software product information preferred

Ability to
comprehend, assimilate and document numerous software applications,
hardware functionality and software/hardware integration independently

Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills

Ability to utilize multiple desktop publishing and video/still-image editing programs

Excellent grammar skills

Basic Interface Control Document, drawing, and schematic knowledge

Ability to edit, proofread and implement in-line changes

Advanced understanding of technical writing conventions

Ability to comprehend and clearly communicate complex technical data
