ALA is working on a new version of their Intellectual Freedom Manual. They are looking for feedback about revised interpretations of Library Bill of Rights regarding Prisoner’s Right to Read and Diversity in Collection Development. Documents are attached and links to google docs w/ instructins are below. Deadline is Dec 28.

In anticipation of a new edition of The Intellectual Freedom Manual, the ALA Intellectual Freedom Committee is in the process of updating intellectual freedom-related documents.

The IFC would appreciate feedback on the following two revisions of Library Bill of Rights interpretations by Friday, December 28. Please feel free to share this message widely.

• "Prisoners' Right to Read: An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights": This interpretation was adopted in 2010 by ALA Council and was amended in 2014. The 2014 version can be found here.
• "Diversity in Collection Development: An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights": This interpretation was adopted by ALA Council in 1982 and amended in 1990, 2008 and 2014. The 2014 version can be found here.

Feedback can be posted in the following two ways:

• Use the links above to post feedback to Google Doc drafts. The IFC requests that you post comments on these documents, rather than edit the documents directly. To post a comment, select "Insert" in the top menu, and then click "Comment." Comments may be posted anonymously (if you're not signed into a Google account) or publicly (if you're signed into your Google account).
• Using "track changes," add comments and edits to the attached Word doc drafts. You can email them to me ([log in to unmask]) or post them as a comment to this ALA Connect post, and I'll forward it to working group members.

The Intellectual Freedom Committee will make revisions to the drafts in light of your suggestions and plans to distribute the documents to ALA Council prior to the Midwinter Meeting in Seattle. The committee also plans to present them at ALA Council Forum for further feedback.
