Australian-German Workshop on Differential Geometry in the Large 4-15 February 2019. This two-week workshop will be held at the MATRIX research and conference center located on the Creswick campus of the University of Melbourne. https://www.matrix-inst.org.au/events/australian-german-workshop-on-differential-geometry- in-the-large/ The first week will be an international conference to highlight recent advances in global Riemannian and metric geometry, topology, and geometric analysis to foster communication between experts and early career researchers. Keynote speakers will include Ben Andrews, Christian Baer, Christoph Boehm, Robert Bryant, Fuquan Fang, Thomas Farrell, Rod Gover, Bernhard Hanke, Frances Kirwan, Claude LeBrun, Peter Petersen, Neil Trudinger, Guofang Wei, and Burkhard Wilking. The second week will focus on new problems and potential directions of future research that came up in the first week. There will be parallel sessions on the following four broad themes: - Geometric evolution equations and curvature flow - Structures on manifolds and mathematical physics - Higher invariants and positive scalar curvature - Recent developments in non-negative sectional curvature In the mornings, in each session, there will be a couple of specialist talks, and then researchers will split in yet smaller groups to attack research problems throughout the day. Sources of support for this workshop include the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, the Australian Mathematical Society, the Ian Potter Foundation, and La Trobe University, as well as the German Research Foundation's SPP 2026: Geometry at Infinity and a grant to support U.S.-based participants from the National Science Foundation. Participation is by formal invitation only and space is very limited. At this time, thanks to support from the National Science Foundation, there are a few additional spots for U.S.-based participants. The grant will cover flights, meals, and accommodation. U.S.-based researchers, especially graduate students, postdocs, and other early-career researchers, as well as women and others from groups underrepresented in mathematics, are encouraged to contact Lee Kennard ( [log in to unmask] ) to express their interest in attending the conference.
