Dear Friends and Good People -

1.
October 21-27, 2018, is the 13th annual Friends of Libraries Week sponsored by the American Library
Association and United for Libraries.

Since 2011, Governor Bill Haslam and Secretary of State Tre Hargett have proclaimed Friends of Libraries Week in Tennessee and “encourage all citizens to join in this worthy observance.” Currently Tennessee is the only state whose governor recognizes and celebrates the volunteer work of library Friends. A copy of the proclamation is below.

Perhaps, sometime during the week, local library staff and trustees could recognize their Friends group for their help and support of the library (such as a fabulous lunch for all involved, Friends, staff, and trustees).

The Friends of Tennessee Libraries (FOTL) has An Ideas Tool Kit with suggestions for celebrating the week: https://tinyurl.com/y7x7agk3.

2.
FOTL is trying to locate which of our libraries has teens active in Friends groups and/or trustee boards.

~ Could you please let us know if your library has a Teen Friends or a Teen Advisory group.
~ Do your Friends and/or trustee boards have teen member(s)?

The October 1 Library Hotline has a wonderful article about a teen serving on her library’s board in Granville, Ohio: https://subscribe.pcspublink.com/Wbsis/Archive/Htln/HTLN_181001_Oct1_bf881dbb-dbc4-42aa-8b0a-50e8541c8d34.pdf, p.6

Please contact me at [log in to unmask] with your information.

Thank you so much for your help and the good work you are doing for your community’s library.

And have a joyful Friends of Libraries Week! - Don
