Clayton State University is seeking candidates for the position of Dean of the Library.



Job Summary

The Dean shall be responsible for effectively managing and coordinating all library operations and activities.



Responsibilities

*       In reporting to the Provost/Vice-President of Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for:

*       Directing the planning, development, and on-going activities of the Access and Electronic Services, Reference and Instructional Services, Technical Services, and University Archives units of the library.

*       Developing, managing, and maintaining a print, non-print, and electronic collection that will support the academic programs of the University at the appropriate levels.

*       Preparing, allocating, and monitoring an annual budget in accordance with the policies of the University and the USG.

*       Recruiting, managing, and evaluating library personnel who will effectively carry out the library's mission.

*       Implementing a program of effective resource sharing and interlibrary cooperation on a local, statewide, and national level.

*       Promoting innovative and traditional methods of information dissemination.

*       Assessing the library's role in an academic community.

*       Providing staff development opportunities for library faculty and staff.

*       Representing the library with internal groups such as Academic Affairs Council, Administrative Council, and the President's Extended Cabinet.

*       Representing the library with external groups such as the Regents Academic Committee on Libraries, the ARCHE Library Council, and other local library/archives programs.



Additionally, in working with the Provost, the Dean shall work effectively with the administration and faculty in:

*       Formulating policies and procedures for the effective utilization of the library by all segments of the University community.

*       Developing and evaluating academic and technological resources that will be used in support of instruction.

*       Ensuring that the focus of the library's materials and resources parallels the University's instructional focus by working cooperatively with teaching faculty through the Library Liaison Program.

*       Ensuring effective communication with other relevant University units.

*

Required Qualifications

*       Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program.

*       Proven track record of effective resource management (i.e. collections, budget, personnel, etc.) and experience with library planning and renovation.

*       Expert knowledge of traditional library functions, emerging technologies, and trends in higher education that impact libraries.

*       Demonstrated professional library experience with progressively responsible positions in librarianship.

*       Experience with and understanding of assessment practices in higher education and libraries.

*       Experience developing and maintaining effective partnerships with other libraries, consortia, etc.



Preferred Qualifications

*       Additional graduate degree, Ed.D. or Ph.D., in Library and Information Science or Educational Leadership.

*       Involvement with professional associations and activities at the local, state, regional, and, if possible, national levels.

*       Experience with fundraising or grant-writing.
