The Vanderbilt University Libraries seeks an outgoing, innovative, and highly motivated education subject specialist to join the team of librarians in the Peabody Library. The position reports to the Director of the Peabody Library.

About the Position and Responsibilities:

This position will serve as subject librarian for the department of Leadership, Policy, & Organizations and the department of Teaching & Learning in the Peabody College of Human and Organizational Development at Vanderbilt University.

Professional librarians at Vanderbilt University are classified as exempt staff. They are, however, subject to a rank and promotion system that encourages research and professional service in addition to librarianship.

The Peabody Library is currently undergoing a transformation in which spaces and services are being redesigned and reimagined, and librarians are shifting their focus towards deeper engagement with students, faculty, and researchers with an emphasis on building information and digital literacy skills across campus.

Working as a member of a team of Peabody librarians, this subject librarian will:

• Actively and systematically engage with faculty and students in the assigned liaison departments, in addition to working with librarians and faculty in other disciplines;
• Participate in and help grow an information and digital literacy program that is integrated into the curriculum;
• Create online learning objects to provide research support to both on-campus and online students;
• Contribute to collection development strategies that are sustainable and responsive to user needs;
• Engage in outreach and develop programming to liaison departments as well as Peabody College and the greater Vanderbilt campus;
• Participate in system-wide initiatives in the Vanderbilt Libraries, such as serving on committees or teaching workshops;  
• Regularly present, publish, and/or otherwise contribute to the profession of library science and/or related disciplinary areas.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

• Master’s degree in library and information science, or equivalent combination of skills and experience;
• A demonstrated ability to teach and present effectively and outstanding communication skills;
• Familiarity with teaching information and digital literacy skills on a college campus;  
• Knowledge and/or interest in using emerging technologies to enhance the delivery of research instruction & information services;
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on teams;
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment.

Preferred:

• Educational background in an education-related discipline (K12, higher education, and/or education policy);
• Experience with online learning platforms and/or creating digital tutorials, videos, and research guides;
• Knowledge of current research tools and issues including open educational resources, research impact, data visualization, etc.;
• Experience writing grant proposals.
