-----------
We have Graduate Research Assistantships available for students interested in developing research related to our NSF-funded project, "High Frequency Hydroclimate Extremes and Synoptic
Climate Drivers in Western North America at the End of the Little Ice Age."
One of these positions will be with Dr. Erika Wise in the Climate & Tree-Ring Environmental Science lab in the Department of Geography at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. This student will focus on
tree-ring science and data-model integration to answer questions concerning pre-instrumental synoptic climatology and hydroclimate extremes. UNC-CH offers opportunities for field & lab research and for classes and collaborations with Duke and NC State universities.
The other position will be in the Department of Geography at the University of South Carolina-Columbia with Dr. Cary Mock, focusing on historical geography, synoptic climatology, and extreme climate and weather
events. This position will include opportunities to conduct international archival research.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to be trained in multiple approaches to climatology at both universities through funded summer research exchanges. Students will also take part in science communication
training through the Morehead Planetarium & Science Center and be able to participate in science education and outreach in the Carolinas. Both positions will provide academic-year and summer salary, conference travel funding, publication costs, and tuition
& fees.
We are seeking applicants to begin the graduate program in August 2019. Students interested in these positions should send their c.v. and information about their background, skills, and research interests to Dr.
Erika Wise at
