POSITION: Systems Librarian (non-tenure track position)


DIVISION: Academic Affairs


DEPARTMENT: Learning Resources Center (Library)


WORK SCHEDULE: 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m., includes a rotating weekend schedule; 12 months;


SALARY: Commensurate with experience


REPORTS TO: Library Director


QUALIFICATIONS: MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the library field, with emphasis on ILMS, library services platforms, and user services.


EXPERIENCE: The individual must possess general knowledge of all modules of an integrated library system. Experience with Sierra ILS software highly desirable. Project management experience desirable with evidence of on-time project completion. Experience with managing quality assurance and testing. Experience with the coordination of multiple personnel and/or external entities. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with current library standards and practices, especially in the areas of circulation, cataloging, interlibrary loan, and patron privacy. Familiarity with MARC formats for bibliographic and authority records. Proficiency in working with personal computer operating systems (Windows and MAC OS), spreadsheets, and word processing. Familiarity with tools such as PHP, SQL, Cascading Style Sheets, and markup languages (HTML, XML, Javascript). Familiarity in systems/program development, including programming, analysis and design, testing, implementation, and information architecture are highly desirable. Familiarity with web development tools and the ability to write or modify scripts and programs is desirable.


Experience and/or knowledge with services to the mobile user, including use of mobile devices (smartphones and tablets), sending library notices as text messages, scanning barcodes from mobile devices, library apps, mobile websites, and social media including Facebook, and Twitter.


Patience, tact, and excellent communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with all levels of staff. Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills as well as organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, and stay current with technical developments.


The library is a member of the South Carolina PASCAL consortium which is investigating a new ILMS. The library currently operates the Sierra ILS. The individual will be Project Manager for library migration to a new ILMS and will coordinate with the Library Systems Administrator for the consortium. Migration duties include planning, scheduling, and managing all aspects of the migration: database cleanup; simplifying and standardizing data categorization; accommodating transaction and fee data; data extraction; consortium and library staff training; testing and quality assurance; customization of library patron interfaces
