Position Summary Information
Basic Function

Develop and implement cutting-edge professional library services for large
distance learning program. Assist online students and faculty through
innovative services including embedded librarian research, information
literacy instruction, and curating library and open educational resources.
Track and assess use and impact of online library services data to ensure
overall excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities

Provide timely and useful group and individual research assistance to
students in selected distance learning courses. Work with faculty and
instructional designers to ensure courses make full use of available
library resources and OER, and that assignments are designed to help
students improve their information literacy skills. Provide assistance
during course design and revision process, through individual
consultations, by developing print/web materials for faculty reference, and
through presentations at faculty professional development events. Plan and
deliver library instruction through teaching LBR courses online, delivering
group instruction via webinar, and contributing to publications (e.g.,
student blog and newsletter) with information about library resources.
Track current best practices in library services generally and in distance
learning in particular. Use this information to improve NOVA Online’s
library services. Track and assess student use of library services,
including type of services used, amount used, and impact on student
learning outcomes. Use data to improve services. Participate in
college-wide committees with other library staff regarding library
policies, acquisitions, etc.
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Library Science (or related field) or master’s degree
with at least 18 graduate semester hours in library science.
Preferred Qualifications

Community college experience preferred. Distance learning experience
preferred. Experience using Canvas, web conferencing software, and web 2.0
tools preferred. Experience developing and curating Open Educational
Resources (OER) for faculty adoption and use.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of current best practices in library services and
instruction. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Creativity,
vision, and ability to translate vision into practice. Ability to use Canvas
 LMS, web conferencing software, and web 2.0 tools to deliver library
instruction and services. Ability to effectively manage short- and
long-term projects along with routine daily responsibilities. Attention to
detail and excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently
and as part of a team.
