FACULTY POSITION

 

INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN

 

Gardner-Webb University seeks a creative, service-oriented, self-motivated librarian to collaborate with other librarians and teaching faculty.  Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Library, the Instruction Librarian provides face-to-face and online information literacy instruction for Gardner-Webb University students, faculty, and staff. This includes instruction for UNIV 111 Freshman Seminar, ENGL 102 Writing Composition, upper level seminar courses, and LIB 301, a one-credit hour online information literacy course. Provides reference services during scheduled reference desk and chat hours. Serves as a liaison to one or more professional schools or departments. This is a 12-month, non-tenure position.

Required Qualifications

·       Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program.

·       Adaptable to changes in the work environment, including flexible coordination and prioritization of projects and duties

·       Knowledge and application of emerging trends and best practices in IL instruction 

·       Ability to work collaboratively with Library, campus, and community members.

·       Ability to produce clear written documents for a wide variety of audiences.

·       Ability to speak persuasively and confidently to various sizes of diverse audiences and to listen and respond to patron needs in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.

·       Ability to manage data, documents, and other information locally and via online networks (Google Drive, OneDrive, and Blackboard).

 

Preferred Qualifications

·      Two or more years instruction experience in an academic library.

·      Knowledge of Health Sciences and/or Natural Sciences  

·      Experience with basic video creation and editing (example – Camtasia)

·      Experience with reference chat services

Responsibilities:

·      Serve as a member of the Instruction Team, assisting in the development of instructional content, research guides, and audio/visual content (LibGuides, Infographics, and Instructional Videos)

·      Serve as a member of the Reference Team, providing proactive, user-centered reference both face-to-face and virtually (reference desk, chat, phone). 

·      Contribute to short-term and long-term planning for the library with other library faculty. 

·      Serve as a voting, non-classroom faculty member at the University, holding faculty membership of academic and special committees. 

·      Engage in a professional learning community with fellow librarians to ensure currency and relevance in our professional practice; including representation of the library at regional and national conference and meetings.

John R. Dover Memorial Library

The John R. Dover Memorial Library is an active and integral part of the University’s academic program. It  holds collections that support all areas of the curriculum.  Professional librarians are involved in an extensive information literacy program and are available for individual and group instruction, via live chat, email, phone, and face-to-face appointments.
