Dear Friends and Good People  -
Now I just know you’ve been asking yourself, “What does an Archivist do?”

In “A portrait of America” on CBS Sunday Morning Aug26, Library of Congress Curator Anne Wilkes Tucker described some of what archivists do, especially related to photographic history.

In Tennessee we are most fortunate to live in a state with one of the country’s finest and service-oriented state library and archives.  The Tennessee State Library and Archives is home to hundreds of thousands of photographs and images that depict the rich and diverse history of Tennessee, including historic events, houses, buildings, and prominent individuals. Although the present database provides access to a growing number of digitized images, only a fraction of the entire TSLA collection is available online.

The Library and Archives preserves millions of precious documents, photographs and maps that chronicle Tennessee’s rich history. The === Held in Trust: Tennessee's Library and Archives video explains how state librarians and archivists work tirelessly to ensure these invaluable resources continue to be available for all Tennesseans. The Library and Archives is the state's scrapbook, cedar chest and attic.
