New Exhibit Coming Soon!

The McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, opens the new exhibition For All the World to See: Visual Culture and the Struggle for Civil Rights, on August 31.

For All the World to See, a nationally touring exhibition from National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) on the Road, traces how images and media disseminated to the American public transformed the modern civil rights movement and jolted Americans, both black and white, out of a state of denial or complacency.

Make sure to save the date for our opening day on August 31st!

Tickets Available Now for August 4 Geology Bus Tour

Join us on Saturday, August 4 from 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m as we explore Townsend area geology on a day long bus tour along the Blue Ridge Foothills. The tour will be facilitated by UT Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Professor Bob Hatcher and will include stops to Tuckaleechee Cove and Chilhowee Lake.

These areas are known for their unique geologic “windows.” As thin sheet of rocks eroded over the last 7 million years, they exposed limestones of the Valley of East Tennessee in windows through the sheet. Attendees will have the opportunity to dismount the bus for observation and photographing these unique features, as well collecting rocks.

Tickets are $60 for museum members and $75 for nonmembers. Each ticket includes coffee upon arrival, the tour, lunch, a field guide, and an annual museum membership for nonmembers. A portion of each ticket is tax deductible.
