Position Summary: The University Libraries at Virginia Tech seeks a service-oriented, well organized, technically savvy, and self-motivated Project Archivist. Based in the Special Collections department, the Project Archivist is responsible for coordinating the one-year NHPRC-funded project “‘They’re Closing Down the Textile Mill:’ Creating Access to the Fries Textile Plant Records at Virginia Tech.” The Project Archivist will be a full-time, faculty-level position for a 12-month period, reporting to the Processing and Special Projects Archivist. They will perform the majority of their duties in the Carol M. Newman Library and Library Service Center, a library storage facility.
Required Qualifications:
-The successful candidate will hold a master’s degree, preferably in
library and information studies, history, or a related field.
-They must have demonstrated work experience in an archives, library, or museum setting.
-They must have demonstrated experience processing archival or manuscript collections and creating access tools, such as EAD finding aids.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred qualifications include experience with a large-scale processing project, digitization projects, management experience, metadata creation, creating exhibits, organizing community events, and a demonstrated knowledge of American labor history or experience with business records.
