Library Specialist

Job Description

The School for the Future of Innovation in Society at Arizona State University is seeking a Library Specialist to oversee the digital library repository for the Solar Powered Educational Learning Library (SolarSPELL) program. SolarSPELL is a ruggedized, portable solar-powered digital library over an off-line WiFi hotspot, designed to simulate an online experience. SolarSPELL’s goal is to provide relevant, localized educational content, in the form of an offline digital library, to resource-constrained locations around the world. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a team that brings localized, relevant digital libraries to places that have never had libraries before.

Making use of open access educational resources across a range of topics, and ever-smaller and more efficient technology, SolarSPELL provides an all-in-one kit, ready to be deployed with minimal training or maintenance required for start-up and continued operation. Our team includes university students, librarians, faculty and staff, and our model involves partnering with locally-based development-minded organizations. We provide local training to our in-field implementation partners, in a train-the-trainers model, as well as ongoing support post-implementation. To measure SolarSPELL’s impact and facilitate process improvement, we conduct on-site research and evaluation. This feedback from implementation partners and local community members is directly incorporated into updated library versions.
