Research & Instructional Services Librarian/Lecturer

Reporting to the Director of Research & Instructional Services, this position is part of a team providing in-depth library research assistance to faculty and students at all levels as well as course-related library instruction on campus, off campus, and online. This position collaborates to improve programs and practices, foster effective use of library services and resources, assess needs, promote awareness of information products and services, and seek partnerships with faculty to develop students’ ability to discover, evaluate, and use information.

 

This is a Lecturer faculty appointment, full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track, renewable for up to three years.

 

This position requires a varying work schedule that includes evening and weekend hours.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities   

-Guides students and faculty in the effective use of library resources and services

-Provides in-depth research consultation and reference assistance online, by phone, in-person.

-Collaborates with colleagues and academic faculty to plan and deliver course integrated instruction

-Designs and teaches library instruction sessions for both classroom and online learning environments

-Develops and teaches online Library Research Skills courses (e.g., BGSD 1800)

-Develops and maintains learning materials focused on library resources and student information literacy skills

-Evaluates instructional outcomes using concepts defined by the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education

-Contributes to program planning, implementation, and evaluation in the unit and the library.

-Works with faculty in designated discipline(s) to identify needs and participate in collection evaluation and development.

 

Required Qualifications

-Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent degree if earned outside the U.S. or Canada. Degree must be awarded before July 1, 2018.

-Knowledge of current ACRL and RUSA standards.

-Experience with library reference/research consulting service. Internship, practicum, temporary employment, or graduate assistant experience is acceptable.

-Teaching experience with high school or adult students. Internship, practicum, temporary employment, student teaching, or teaching assistant experience is acceptable.

-Experience with current web, instructional, and productivity technologies.

-Evidence of teamwork, creativity, flexibility, and initiative.

-Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in life, physical, or social sciences; mathematics; engineering; technology OR second Master’s degree in any field.

-Experience working in a learning commons/information commons environment in an academic library.

-Knowledge of information literacy concepts and application to library instruction.

-Experience with LibGuides, LibAnswers.

-Experience using online meeting software (e.g., WebEx, GoToMeeting, Adobe Connect).

-Experience creating screencast tutorials or other online learning objects.

-Knowledge of accessibility requirements for instructional materials.
