The IFWCO provides research and monitoring expertise for rare and ESA-listed species as well as those of cultural importance and management interest.  The office’s area of responsibility is the state of Idaho and portions of eastern Oregon and eastern Washington states.

 

This is a leadership position in the IFWCO.  The incumbent will assist the office supervisor in all facets of office activities including: developing projects and methodologies to support species conservation and management; data collection, data management and analysis; report/publication writing; habitat rehabilitation projects; administration, supervision, mentoring; and other tasks.   The office’s current focus is lamprey distribution monitoring; mussel distribution, abundance and demographic research; habitat rehabilitation projects (primarily in non-anadromous waters);  and evaluations of Chinook salmon and steelhead hatchery production from Dworshak National Fish Hatchery. 

 

This office is remaking itself.  The successful candidate will be a critical part of setting the direction for USFWS conservation research in Idaho and other areas as appropriate.  

 

Desired qualifications for this position are a strong analytical background with a demonstrated ability in designing statistically rigorous biological/ecological studies, data analysis, use of models and algorithms for abundance, distribution, and predictive estimates; reporting results in agency reports and peer-reviewed publications, and an inclusive team-oriented attitude.
