Position Summary Information

Basic Function

The Learning and Technology Resources Division is committed to meeting the information needs of the faculty, staff, and student of the Annandale Campus. We seek ongoing improvement of the relevance and utility of our collections, to improve our instruction in information literacy, and to broaden access for all users in support of the College’s mission and strategy, especially as regards student success. We strive to provide excellent customer service and demonstrate value to all stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates, assesses, and plans for the selection and development of the library collection of NOVA’s largest campus library.

Ensures, within budget constraints, that formats exist appropriate to meet the research and information needs of faculty, students, staff, and for onsite and distance patrons.

Collaborates with faculty liaisons to select materials to support all programs and subject areas taught at the campus. Assists in gathering statistics and analyzing usage of the collection, and provides guidance on budget requests. Works closely with other campus librarians and the college acquisition/processing office to evaluate, select and purchase electronic databases for the college.

Develops and coordinates initiatives and services to support the discovery and curation, as well as the creation and adoption, of Open Educational Resources (OER). Fosters and maintains partnerships with campus stakeholders, working closely with faculty to promote the use and integration of OER into curriculum. Provides expertise, education and outreach regarding open licensing as well as copyright and fair use.

Develops and delivers group and individual library reference and instruction services. 
Assists faculty in creating targeted assignments to develop the information literacy skills of our students.

Participates in college committee work, professional development activities and serves on the library management team.

Minimum Qualifications

ALA-accredited Master’s in Library Science; Academic library experience, reference and collection development experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Second master’s degree in related discipline such as information technology, instructional design, or education; Experience and knowledge of models and trends in OER, open licensing, and libraries; some supervisory and leadership experience, preferably with full-time employees; Teaching experience, grant writing experience, project management experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of emerging models of library acquisitions for multiple formats with new technologies and new applications used by students; Knowledge of OER and Open Access, including licencing, policy, resources and tools for discovery, development and accessing OER and OA materials.

Knowledge of course management software; Proficient MS Office skills; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Strong service orientation and ability to work in a multicultural, team environment.
