Job Description:
This
is a 2 month seasonal position working with Mississippi State University. This
position will assist two graduate students with darting adult male white tailed
deer and conducting oak mast surveys. We’re looking for someone that can
supervise the crew and conduct capture independently of us for part of the
season. Position duties include, but are not limited to: (1) monitoring trail
cameras and bait at dart sites (2) darting adult bucks (3) working
cooperatively with Mississippi Wildlife Fisheries & Parks agency personnel
(4) interfacing with public landowners (5) cruising timber with a focus on
measuring acorn abundance. Position begins August 1st and will extend through
the end of September.
Location: Canton, Mississippi
Salary: $11.50/hour + overtime, housing will be provided
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or related discipline. Applicants MUST have a valid driver's license and experience driving 4x4 vehicles. Preference will be given to candidates with ungulate capture and immobilization experience, strong field research background, and archery or firearms hunting experience.
Candidates must be able to take detailed field notes and follow strict capture protocols. Applicants must able to carry 50 lbs. of equipment two hundred yards over rough ground. Candidates should be prepared to work weekends, irregular hours, and live in close quarters as part of a team. An excellent work ethic is mandatory.
