Position Summary:

Virginia Tech’s University Libraries seeks creative and enthusiastic applicants for the position of High-Impact Practices Librarian (HIP Librarian). The Libraries aspire to prepare students to work, live, and thrive within a global context, and to partner with faculty incorporating a wide array of literacies, fluencies, competencies, and pedagogies into their teaching practices. Working widely across the library system and the University, this position presents an opportunity to be deeply engaged across the teaching and learning enterprise, particularly within established high-impact practices areas on campus such as First Year Experiences, Common Intellectual Experiences, Learning Communities, Global Learning, Capstone Courses and ePortfolio.

While the core duties of this position will revolve around designing and implementing various types of learning engagement opportunities involving High-Impact Educational Practices, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape parts of this position based on his or her interests and skills. In particular, depending on the candidate’s background, they may have the opportunity to work on learning assessment initiatives, study abroad, or other areas of interest.

Required Qualifications:

- MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program or Master’s degree in a related field
- Broad knowledge and understanding of principles relating to information and digital literacies
- Understanding of current and emerging trends, concepts, and theories in instruction and higher education
- Strong interpersonal skills for outreach, relationship building, and collaboration
- Ability to work as part of a team in order to accomplish departmental and institutional goals in a fast-paced, energetic environment
- Demonstrated learner-oriented approach to instruction
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and learning

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience or academic coursework related to library engagement
- Experience or academic coursework related to assessment of instructional initiatives
- Evidence of successful project management skills
- Participated in study abroad or other global learning opportunities
