Lisa Horowitz, Program Head for Liaison and Information Services at MIT will present her work and her research and will engage participants to begin examining and assessing their own liaison work.

This workshop is a great professional development opportunity for all academic librarians who serve as liaisons to academic departments at their institutions. As liaison librarian practice continues to evolve towards the user-focused roles of outreach, instruction, collaboration, and partnerships, assessment practices that count numbers of reference transactions or instruction sessions, for example, do not capture the impact of the strong relationships between the library and the community it serves. This workshop will engage participants in conversations that unearth what is valued in the liaison program at their institutions, and how they can generate evidence showing that they have achieved that outcome. Participants will then generate potential measures to evaluate those outcomes, and some tools that can be used to pull it all together.
