[cid:[log in to unmask]]April 8-14, 2018 is National Library Week, a special week that celebrates libraries of all types - public, academic, school, and special. Today, Tuesday, April 10 is even more special - National Library Workers Day, a day set aside to celebrate the dedicated, professional, and community-minded folks who work in libraries and serve their public. We want to draw attention to a special group of library workers - the staff members of the nine regional libraries of the Tennessee Regional Library System. The mission of the regional system in Tennessee is to "Make Libraries Better", and these staff members are dedicated to making every public library in Tennessee as service-oriented and progressive as possible. The Regional Directors, Assistant Directors, Administrative Assistants, Technical Service Assistants, Network Services Consultants, and the Library Information System Specialists in each regional library provide a wide range of services and programs that are designed to develop public library programs at the local community level. They provide leadership and guidance to local public library staff and their library boards of trustees, continuing education for staff and board members, additional funding to boost library material collections, and technology support to keep public library computers and automation systems running at an optimum level. [cid:[log in to unmask]]The regional library staff members are constantly on the move, attending public library board meetings (both day and evening meetings), visiting library directors for consultations and guidance, training library staff and boards on topics ranging from collection development, programming ideas, emergency planning, social services to management of libraries. The technology staff members travel in state cars to provide on-site assistance in new computer set ups, software installation and troubleshooting, Wi-Fi, and internal networks. The Tennessee Regional Library System is a long-time service of the Tennessee State Library and Archives and was established in 1939. The system has a long history of dedicated, professional, and quality regional staff members, some of whom have worked for the system for over 40 years. At this time in its history, the regional library staff members are some of the most caring, creative, innovative library workers we have ever known.
