Dear UTK Geographers:
Many thanks to several of you who replied to the doodle poll expressing interest in meeting with Karen Till. People’s preferences/availability were spread out and there is not a perfect time to catch everyone.
In an effort to catch as many people as possible, I am setting up a hour meeting that cuts across two proposed meeting times.
The Geography Department will hold an informal meeting and conversation with Dr. Karen Till on Monday, April 30 from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Even if you can only stay for part of the time or you have to come in late,
please feel free to come to the meeting. As soon as I am back in town (tomorrow), I will confirm and email you location—stay tuned for that.
Best wishes,
DA

Subject: Opportunity to meet Geographer Karen Till--please fill out Doodle
Importance: High
Dear UTK Geographers:
Dr. Karen Till, a prominent cultural geographer at Maynooth University (Ireland), will be visiting me April 30-May 1. She is the area after having given a talk at Sewanee.
I realize that this a tough time in the semester, but I would like to provide students and faculty a chance to sit down with Karen for an hour to talk about her work, tell her about your work, and simply get to know each other (this type
of networking proves high valuable for many reasons).
I have set up a doodle poll to try to determine the best time to set up a group meeting with Karen. The location is TBD at this point. If you are interested, please visit and complete the poll below ASAP (I will set the final meeting
time before Friday). Note, you can only choose one time slot!

For those who may not know Karen or her work, you still might consider coming to meet her (see link below for more bio information). Karen has been responsible for producing some important work on the politics of memory in post-World War
II Germany and the larger issue of socially just commemoration, memory-work, cities/places wounded by exclusion and violence, and the place-based ethics of care that is possible in a post-conflict context (see link below to her path breaking article in Political
Geography).
