Subject: THIS WEEK: Scholarships/Fellowships workshops

Dear colleagues,

This week the Office of National Scholarships & Fellowships (ONSF) will host several information sessions and workshops to complement 2018 Research Week (see ONSF events schedule below). The biggest event is at 3:00pm this Wednesday, April 18 in Hodges 213, for the 2018 UT FULBRIGHT KICK-OFF. This session is appropriate for any UT student—from 1st- and 2nd-years, to juniors, graduating seniors, and graduate students—interested in learning more about the Fulbright (it’s never too early and rarely too late). Please encourage your students to attend and circulate this message widely! In addition, we welcome students referrals to ONSF from faculty and staff here: https://onsf.utk.edu/refer-a-student-to-onsf/

Events are noted below and on our homepage; we will update this page with additional events between now and finals: https://onsf.utk.edu/ Students are free to come and go as their schedules permit. (Faculty and staff are welcome to attend any/all sessions.) ONSF staff will also be available to talk with students up to 30 minutes before and after each event.

Monday, April 16—Hodges Library, Room 213

·         2:30pm, 3:30pm: Introductory Sessions on Nationally Competitive Scholarships and Fellowships. Join ONSF to learn more about nationally competitive awards, the range of opportunities available—from funded study abroad to research internships and post-graduate study—the various processes to apply, and what makes a competitive applicant/application. Appropriate for any student, especially first- and second-years.

Tuesday, April 17—Hodges Library, Room 253

·         2:30pm: Truman and Udall Scholarship Public Service Awards Information Session. Committed to a career in public service and/or the environment? Interested in funding for undergraduate and graduate study? Come learn about the prestigious Truman and Udall Scholarships and how to apply!

·         3:30pm: UK/Ireland Scholarships (RhodesMarshallMitchellGates Cambridge) Information Session. We’ll discuss the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, and Gates Cambridge Scholarships—among the world’s most competitive awards for post-graduate study and which require UT’s endorsement to apply. Join ONSF and a former Rhodes Scholar to learn about each program. We’ll leave time to discuss other potential programs of interest, such as Schwarzman and Knight-Hennessy Scholars.

Wednesday, April 18—Hodges Library, Room 213

·         3:00pm: 2018 Fulbright Student Program Kick-Off Event. UT has had 10+ students selected for a Fulbright the past two years. Attend this event to learn more about the Fulbright (the opportunities possible, how to start the process, complete the Campus Pre-Application, and develop a competitive application, etc.) from ONSF and recent successful UT applicants!

Thursday, April 19—Baker Center, Room 118 (Seminar Room)—STEM Research Awards Information Sessions

·         1:45pm: Goldwater Scholarship. Prestigious scholarship for outstanding undergraduate STEM researchers (sophomores and juniors). Join ONSF to learn more!

Andrew
