Subject: Virtual/doctoral summer fellowships
We would be grateful if you would share this call with your doctoral students. We are also attaching a flyer and would be pleased to have you distribute or post
the flyer.
The Metadata Research Center (MRC) at
Drexel University’s College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) invites doctoral students to participate in the LIS Education and Data Science-4-the National Digital Platform (LEADS-4-NDP) program. This is a virtual fellowship program, meaning applicants
from any geographic location are eligible for consideration. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 30 at 5:00 pm (EST).
LEADS fellows will receive a $5,000 stipend, plus additional financial support (approximately $3,000) for a three-day Data Science Bootcamp at Drexel University,
a National Digital Platform site visit during the summer, and conference travel during the 2018-19 academic year to share project outcomes. This project is funded
by the Institute of Museum and Library Services' Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program to advance LIS doctoral
education in data science.
LEADS project partners include California Digital Library at University of California, Digital Curation Innovation Center at University of Maryland’s iSchool, Digital
Public Library of America, Digital Research Services at Penn Libraries, Free Library of Philadelphia, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), and Biodiversity Heritage Library & Smithsonian Libraries. Fellows will complete
a virtual 10-week summer data science internship coordinated with a selected NDP site. Some LEADS Fellows may have more on-site interaction, depending on their location. The virtual model follows the NSF DataOne and Research
Data Alliance model, both of which have been very successful. Read more about our partners and their project outcomes
on the LEADS-4-NDP application page.
Drexel University and the Metadata Research Center are dedicated to building a culturally diverse and pluralistic team of fellows. Applicants must be doctoral students
at an institution with an ALA-accredited master’s degree program. Learn more and apply now by visiting the LEADS-4-NDP
page.
Best wishes,
Jane Greenberg
