Don't let Perfection become the enemy of GOOD.  Paul Ryan

"Power isn't control at all--power is strength, and giving that strength to others. A leader isn't someone who forces others to make him stronger; a leader is someone willing to give his strength to others that they may have the strength to stand on their own."

Above all, taking the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Position title:  PhD Research Assistantship evaluating the stocking of Striped Bass in Bull Shoals Reservoir

Agency/location: Missouri Cooperative Fish/Wildlife Research Unit, The School of Natural Resources, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri

Responsibilities:  Conduct research related to evaluating a Striped Bass stocking program to produce a high-quality, low-density fishery that will supplement current angling opportunities in Bull Shoals Reservoir, a large reservoir on the Arkansas-Missouri border in the beautiful Ozarks.  The main objective is to determine the growth, survival, and movement of stocked Striped Bass, as well as any potential impact on existing sportfish.  The approaches used will include ultrasonic telemetry, gill netting, and diet/food web analysis.  The results will inform the Missouri Department of Conservation on future alternative stocking strategies for Striped Bass.  The selected student will be expected to conduct field work in southern Missouri for 1-2 weeks at a time, operate motorized boats, collaborate with state agency biologists, and present/publish their work.  The position includes a full time technician.  Selection of student contingent on final funding approval.

Qualifications: MS in fisheries, ecology, or related program, minimum of GPA of 3.2 in last 2 years.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience operating boats, interest in using research to solve management problems, demonstrated ability or interest to work with agencies, and demonstrated ability to present/publish research results.

Stipend: 24,036/year; includes tuition waiver and health insurance.

Closing date:  Review begins April 1 and open until filled. Start date of August 2018 or January 2019.
