Thavolia Glymph is professor of history, faculty research scholar of the Population Research Institute, and faculty affiliate of the Program in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Duke University. Her lecture is entitled “Against and Archive of Death, Erasure, and Evacuated Language: Writing the History of Black Women Refugees in the Civil War.” (flyer attached) Diversi-Tea<https://teaching.utk.edu/diversi-tea/> is part of an ongoing effort to facilitate communication among faculty and staff about issues related to inclusive teaching practices. In monthly sessions sponsored by Teaching and Learning Innovation<https://teaching.utk.edu/>, faculty and staff will be given the opportunity to learn from one another and engage in dialogue about the various ways of incorporating inclusive teaching practices. The next Diversi-Tea will be on February 22 from 3:30–5:00 p.m. in the Frieson Black Cultural Center and the topic will be “Assessing Your Cultural Competency: Self-Reflection for Inclusive Practice in the Classroom and Beyond.” Be sure to register for the workshop<http://workshop.utk.edu/?w=378>, if you plan to attend. In this first session, Prof. Marina Maccari-Clayton, from the Department of History, will lead a workshop entitled “Reacting to the Past: Using Gamification to Facilitate Deeper Learning” in Hodges Library, Room 253.
