LAC Federal is a seeking an experienced Cataloger for a contract at a prestigious federal library
in downtown Washington, DC.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Create original and copy MARC bibliographic records for monographs, serials and non-print materials.

Interpret and apply cataloging rules as found in Library of Congress (LC) Cataloger’s Desktop, RDA Toolkit, OCLC and local practice.

Assign LC call numbers and subject headings using LC Classification Web.

Other duties as needed including barcoding, labelling, materials handling, documentation, etc.
Education and experience required:
-
MLIS degree from an ALA accredited library school with coursework in cataloging or equivalent work experience; substantial (5+ years) cataloging experience may be considered in lieu of MLIS.

Familiarity with OCLC Connexion and its integration with ILS systems; SirsiDynix Horizon experience desirable.

3+ years of experience in original and copy cataloging using AACR2 or RDA in MARC bibliographic format, LC classification and subject headings

Familiarity with Western European languages is necessary; ability to work with non-Latin alphabets such as Greek and Cyrillic preferred.

Experience in cataloging art and scientific materials desirable; intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn and perform research on a wide array of topics is required.

Must be able to physically process materials in a large library system. This may include handling (creating and receiving) shipments of boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing library carts full of items, reaching high or low
on tall shelves, handling large and/or fragile volumes.
