LAC Federal seeks a Public Services Research Librarian to provide targeted and specific reference, research, circulation and education services to work on a contract with a prestigious government institution in Cincinnati, Ohio. This role focuses on health sciences, engineering, and occupational health. This is a full-time (40 hour a week; Monday-Friday) benefited position.

 

Responsibilities include:

§  You will provide information, reference, research, and education services to all credentialed employees of the organization, regardless of location;

§  You will provide reference and research services responding to requests for evidence-based literature in support of public health and occupational safety and health science;

§  You will assist patrons with their library needs and provide reference, extensive and detailed research and reader’s advisory assistance;

§  You will apply standard library practices to new situations and in relating new work situations to precedent ones;

§  You will maintain current knowledge of new developments in the library field to include: library science, library services and knowledge management;

§  You will staff the reference desk and perform circulation services;

§  You will provide accurate and timely answers to specific research questions with source identification;

§  You will work as part of a team with subject matter to document the process used to search, screen, select, and acquire scientific literature on a broad range of selected public health and occupational safety and health topics in support of systematic reviews, evidence-based guidelines and recommendations, and scientific endeavors;

§  You will develop and maintain online subject guides and bibliographies on a variety of public health and occupational safety and health topics;

§  You will assist customers in using library systems and tools to meet their information and research needs;

§  You will use formal training as a librarian and experience in a systematic review practice to develop, conduct, optimize, and update systematic literature searches to identify all relevant scientific literature on public health and occupational safety and health topics;

§  You will provide comprehensive literature searches, documenting processes, in a timely manner;

§  You will use citation management software such as EndNote to download and manage article citations and generate documents;

§  You will provide training and outreach activities on literature searching techniques, databases, and library services supporting the information needs of public health and occupational safety and health scientists;

§  You will assist in publicizing library activities and materials through displays, bibliographies, brochures, news releases, newsletters, internet and intranet websites, etc.;

§  You will assist in the plans to direct and/or implement special projects involving library services, promotion and outreach

 

Qualifications:

§  A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA accredited University is required

§  5 or more years of health sciences research library or biomedical research library experience is required

§  Knowledge of standard library practices, precedents and techniques;

§  Knowledge of appropriate information technology to acquire, organize and disseminate information

§  Knowledge of the principles and practice of online searching including search construction and strategy, search commands and syntax, index structure, use of controlled vocabularies, natural language searching, Boolean logic, truncation, adjacency, relevance ranking, related to public health and occupational health and safety information resources

§  Experience in perform literature searches and research consultations on a broad range of public health topics using a variety of databases, including but not limited to PubMed, OVID Medline, Embase, Dialog, Global Health, CINAHL, Cochrane, PsycINFO, Sociological Abstracts, ABI/Inform, Compendex, Environment Abstracts, Health & Safety Science Abstracts, TOXLINE, and Toxicology Abstracts;

§  Ability to apply effective communication and analytic techniques for use in conducting training and outreach activities.
