LAC Federal seeks an experienced full-time Digitization Technician for a position with our client, a prestigious government library located in Beltsville, Maryland. This position is a full-time, benefited position, working on-site at the client’s facility.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Prepare materials for digitization by another team on-site.
Review items from the collection to determine the best copy for digitization/scanning, retrieve materials from their home locations and return them upon completion, disband and rehouse materials as needed.

·         The technician is also responsible for maintaining the organization of materials in the digitization area awaiting processing, as well as updating databases and spreadsheets with the status of materials in process.

·         Responsible for searching the local catalog to verify bibliographic information about materials, and identify corrections where needed.

·         Run queries against the catalog, download the metadata, and transfer it to MS Excel for formatting.

·         Responsible for digitizing fragile and oversize material using the agency’s cameras and equipment, creating derivative files and uploading them into the repository, verifying that metadata is complete and accurate, and perform quality review on digitized images and metadata files.

 

Qualifications:

Required skills/knowledge includes:

·         Experience searching library catalogs and interpreting bibliographic records

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

·         Experience using digital camera equipment and software to digitize printed materials

·         Experience with Adobe Acrobat

·         Experience creating websites using HTML and Dreamweaver

·         Ability to lift and move books and manuscript boxes, to climb ladders to retrieve materials and to push book trucks

·         Ability to work independently following established procedures

·         Ability to manage time and balance work on a variety of ongoing tasks according to set priorities

 

Desirable skills/knowledge includes

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Access

·         Experience with Drupal, Omeka, Capture One, Adobe Photoshop, and the Voyager library catalog system
