Information Literacy Librarian - Position Description

12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty; hired at Assistant rank dependent on experience and degree.

The University of Tennessee at Martin and its Paul Meek Library seek a collegial and service-oriented professional to serve as Information Literacy Librarian.  This position will provide professional leadership in the planning, programming, delivering, evaluating and assessment of the library's information literacy instruction program. Work closely and effectively with librarians and classroom faculty to ensure that all University of Tennessee at Martin students reach the level of information literacy necessary to achieve academic and career success. Provide reference/information services to users. Report to the Library Director.

Responsibilities

A. Information Literacy Librarian

ˇ         Provide leadership in expanding, enhancing and assessing the delivery of library instruction to students both on-site, and off-site, incorporating best practices in instruction and information literacy.

ˇ         Take on the primary responsibility for teaching information literacy skills and concepts to all classes, and for upper level classes in the assigned liaison area. Share instruction responsibilities for other courses as staffing needs dictate.

ˇ         Monitor and keep records of all library instruction statistics for reporting purposes and perform scheduling of library instruction as needed.

ˇ         Define and refine policies, procedures, and approaches to library instruction, for traditional and interactive modes including online courseware.

ˇ         Develop programmatic assessment models that measure the impact of instruction on student learning.

ˇ         Design shared instructional materials in various formats (e.g. electronic, interactive, etc.), including user guides and training materials, working closely with other professional staff.
B. Other Duties

ˇ         Serves as Library liaison to designated departments, providing collection development (with a primary focus on undergraduate populations), and creates and updates Library Research Guides and other finding aids, tools, or tutorials.

ˇ         Staffs the reference desk on a scheduled basis, including some evenings and weekend hours

ˇ         Maintains awareness of trends and advances in the field by attending professional workshops, meetings, conferences and other events.

ˇ         Progress successfully along the promotion and tenure track, and participate fully as a member of the university faculty including serving on internal library and campus-wide faculty and related committees

ˇ         Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

ˇ         ALA accredited Master's degree or its international equivalent before date of appointment.

ˇ         Experience working in a library setting

ˇ         Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills

ˇ         Strong commitment to public service, and ability to work with diverse users, staff, and faculty.
Preferred Qualifications

ˇ         Experience teaching and collaborating with faculty to deliver library instruction.

ˇ         Knowledge of library database searching, the research process and principles of active learning as applied to Information Literacy.

ˇ         Comfortable with new information technologies.

ˇ         Knowledge of presentation/authoring software.

ˇ         Experience with survey and assessment methods, including user satisfaction surveys and focus groups.

ˇ         Experience developing online instruction.

ˇ         1-2 years of academic library experience

ˇ         A Degree in Education

ˇ         Experience with Innovative Interfaces Sierra and Springshare LibGuides.
Salary/Benefits


This is a twelve-month appointment with faculty rank at the Assistant/Associate Professor level; salary will reflect the successful candidate's qualifications and professional experience; benefits include a choice of health and retirement plans, tuition waiver for self, and partial tuition waivers for dependents.
