Hi Craig,

It’s been a while since we were in touch. You may have heard that we are
searching for NMFS’s Southwest and Southeast Science and Research
Directors. I would appreciate your reviewing the announcements and letting
me know if you/someone you know might be interested. Many thanks. Allie

*JDG Associates*, Executive Search Consultants, has been retained by
the *National
Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS)* within the * National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)* to identify candidates for two critical
Senior Executive Service (SES) positions:

   - *Science and Research Director, Southeast Region (Miami, Florida)*
   - *Science and Research Director, Southwest Region (San Diego,
   California)*

NMFS is responsible for the stewardship of the Nation’s ocean resources and
ecosystems by providing vital services to ensure productive and sustainable
fisheries, the recovery and conservation of protected resources, and by
using scientific, evidence based approaches for the management of healthy
ecosystems. To support these efforts, NMFS conducts research to support
fisheries, fishery development, trade, industry assistance activities, and
the scientific and technical aspects of NOAA’s marine fisheries resource
programs.

The* (2) Science and Research Directors *will lead scientific research
programs of living marine ecology and resources identified within the
*Southwest
(CA)* and *Southeast (FL)* Regions and their adjacent waters. S/he will
plan, develop and manage multidisciplinary research programs necessary to
provide scientific information to regional fishery management councils and
protected species recovery teams. S/he is responsible for biological and
oceanographic surveys and studies to monitor, assess, and predict the
abundance and availability of living marine resources, including research
to improve detection and monitoring, as well as research designed to
improve the handling, processing, quality, safety, and utilization of
marine aquaculture.

Critical to this search is the following criteria:

   - *Experience administering a multi-faceted program in applied research
on fisheries management, protected species conservation or habitat
   conservation and restoration*
   - *Experience leading marine-based research science programs and
   policies *
   - *Experience coordinating and communicating with external stakeholders
with varying interests in policy formation for marine habitat conservation
   and usage*

I have attached position announcements for both of these critical roles.
And feel free to forward this email to others within your “network”.

Regards,

Allie Marshall
