Research Liaison

*Reports To: *Director of Public Policy

*FLSA Status: *Exempt

*Summary: *The Research Librarian is responsible for planning and
integration of library information services that support the strategic
objectives of the National Resource Center for Victim Research and
Evaluation (NRC-VRC). The Research Librarian also assumes an active role in
the operation and maintenance of the innovative digital library

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities *include the following. Other duties
may be assigned.

   - Provides specialized assistance to victim services professionals
   seeking research publications, statistical information, bibliographic
   citations, etc.
   - Provides specialized reference services via telephone, e-mail,
   scheduled instant chat, and in-person methods to victim service
   professionals.
   - Creates bibliographic records for print, electronic, audio, and video
   materials for the victim research and evaluation library
   - Provides research assistance for NRC-VRC projects
   - Locates and acquires new publications for the library
   - Builds bibliographies and topical specialized reference lists for
   victim service providers and researchers on a variety of topics.
   - Produces tutorials, slide presentations, articles, and “how-to” guides
   for dissemination to library users.
   - Assists in grant writing and similar projects.
   - Provides instructional workshops, presentations and booths at national
   conferences (some travel required)
   - Builds and maintains relationships with numerous providers of training
   and technical assistance in victim services, and with research libraries.

*Education and/or Experience *

An ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science
(MA/MLS/MLIS/MIS) or non-U.S. equivalent is required; a subject degree in a
discipline in the social or health sciences is preferred. Minimum of three
years’ post-Masters experience in Library services or a related field that
involves the collection of reference materials assistance to users.

*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities *

   - Expertise in managing subject collections and electronic resources.
   - Experience working with digital repository systems.
   - Reference experience with expertise in social sciences.
   - Experience with government documents and legal references.
   - Experience with web site design and development including familiarity
   with web-authoring tools.
   - Experience with management of technology-based library services and
   electronic resources.
   - Knowledge of current and emerging technologies in digital and
   web-based library services.
   - Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property issues in the
   electronic environment.
   - Familiarity with metadata standards, Dublin Core, electronic
   collections and institutional repository policies and procedures
   - Familiarity with best practices relating to audio visual materials.
   - Ability to plan, initiate and implement effective programs, projects
   and services.
   - Excellent oral and written communication skills.
   - Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
   - Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
   - Ability to speak on bibliographic and library-related topics to
   diverse audiences.
   - Knowledge of ethical standards of information services

*Advantaged Qualifications*

   - Grant writing experience is desirable.
   - Experience with relational database applications such as SQL or Access
   is preferred.
   - Foreign languages are a plus.
   - Knowledge of Section 508 Accessibility Standards.
   - Familiarity with publications and resources from fields of
   victimology, criminology, psychology, social work, or similar areas a plus
   - Familiarity with the challenges of the special library is preferred

*Computer Skills*

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have excellent
computer usage skills, including familiarity with the use of bibliographic
databases and the internet. The individual should also know and easily
generate work products in MS office suite.

initiative. Fluency in standard American English is required.

*Residency Requirements*

NCVC is an Equal Opportunity employer. Candidates must be a citizen or
lawful resident  of the U.S. Although some remote scheduling may be
possible, the successful candidate must live in the Washington, DC
metropolitan area.

*Compensation*

This is a full-time position. Salary is competitive for this region and
nationally. Benefits include health insurance coverage, regularly scheduled
holidays, and 20 vacation days per year. The initial contract period runs
through December 2018 and is renewable annually thereafter.
