Fish Reproductive Biology Technician Position—Immediate Availability
Title: Technician II - Fisheries
Location: University of Southern Mississippi Center for Fisheries Research and Development, Ocean Springs, Mississippi
Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include: 1) conducting biological field sampling for reef fishes in Mississippi coastal and offshore waters, 2) reproductive biology sampling of all captured reef fish in the laboratory, 3) fecundity analyses, 4) data entry and QC, 5) histological analysis of gonadal tissues and imaging of histology slides, 6) data analysis of reproductive metrics, 7) writing technical reports and publications, 8) preparing and presenting scientific talks at professional meetings, and 9) participation in outreach events at public and professional forums.
Qualification: Master's degree in coastal, marine, biological or fisheries science and experience with: 1) collection of marine and coastal fishes using standard field collection gear and procedures, 2) reproductive biology of fishes (including histological analysis), and 3) data analysis, OR a BS degree in coastal, marine, biological or fisheries science and 2 years post-degree work experience as indicated above. Experience with fish reproductive biology as a tool for fisheries research, analysis of such data, and communication with the recreational fishing public (outreach) on research activities are essential.
Salary: $32,000/year including full benefits
