Assessment Librarian – Tenure-Track Faculty Position

University of Tennessee at Martin, Paul Meek Library

 

The University of Tennessee at Martin and its Paul Meek Library seek a collegial and service-oriented professional to serve as Assessment Librarian.  The 400,000 volume-equivalent library serves a school of 6,000 on-site and distance education undergraduate students in Northwest Tennessee and five off-campus centers.  The library uses LibGuides, and Sierra (Innovative) as its ILS.

The University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) is a primary campus in the University of Tennessee System.  It is located in beautiful, rural Northwest Tennessee, approximately 120 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles west of Nashville. The community of Martin and the surrounding area are both relaxed and friendly and boast a low cost of living.  There are multiple opportunities to participate in various local and national civic and volunteer organizations. There is a local museum and cultural area, Discovery Park of America, located 15 miles away.  There are several local parks, as well as state and national recreation areas, including Reelfoot Lake and Land Between the Lakes, located within easy driving distance.

 

Job Responsibilities:

A. Assessment

ˇ Provides leadership in assessing library services.

ˇ Plans, develops, and implements library-wide assessment programs, initiatives and strategies that enable continuous review, evaluation and improvement of services.

ˇ Monitors and coordinates assessment projects throughout the library.

ˇ Identifies key data that measure the impact of the library’s collections, services, facilities, news, and events.

ˇ Provides assessment training, data-management consulting and support services to the library’s faculty and staff.

ˇ Develops and consults on surveys and other assessment tools.

ˇ Coordinates the gathering of library-wide statistics for external surveys.

ˇ Coordinate the reporting/archiving of library statistical data.

ˇ Provides UT Martin and UT System required library assessment documentation.

ˇ Represents the library on assessment issues at the university, system and national level.

B. Other Duties

ˇ Serves as Library liaison to designated departments, providing collection development (with a primary focus on undergraduate populations), and creates and updates Library Research Guides and other finding aids, tools, or tutorials.

ˇ  Staffs the reference desk on a scheduled basis, including some evenings and weekend hours.

ˇ Maintains awareness of trends and advances in the field by attending professional workshops, meetings, conferences and other events.

ˇ Progress successfully along the promotion and tenure track, and participate fully as a member of the university faculty including serving on internal library and campus-wide faculty and related committees

ˇ Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

ˇ  Masters of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program before date of appointment

ˇ  1-2 years of library experience

ˇ  Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills

ˇ  Strong commitment to public service, and ability to work with diverse users, staff, and faculty.

Preferred Qualifications:

ˇ  Demonstrated overall project management skills

ˇ  Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative and qualitative assessment methodologies and their application in academic libraries

ˇ  Demonstrated experience conducting analysis and creating customized reports using statistical software applications, such as SPSS, Excel, atlas.ti

ˇ  Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment, as well as independently

ˇ  Demonstrated presentation skills

ˇ  High degree of self-motivation

ˇ  Academic library experience.

 

The successful candidate must be willing to accept a faculty appointment at an assistant/associate level and meet University of Tennessee standards for promotion and tenure.

 

Salary/Benefits:

 

This is a twelve-month appointment with faculty rank at the Assistant/Associate Professor level; salary will reflect the successful candidate’s qualifications and professional experience; benefits include a choice of health and retirement plans, tuition waiver for self, and partial tuition waivers for dependents.
