Don't miss these select plants and great deals!

This year the focus will be on Pollinator Power. Butterflies, bees, birds, bats and other small mammals are responsible for pollinating about 80% of all flowering plants on earth. That means that one out of every three bites of food you eat is dependent on pollination. Many of these organisms are in decline due in great part to a loss of feeding and nesting habitats. Adding pollinator plants to your garden is one of the best ways you can help! Beneficial plant varieties will be clearly marked and trained staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions. Native plants will also be featured at this sale; both native plants and pollinator plants will be flagged to assist in customer selection.

The sale will also include an array of herbs, edibles, ornamental perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs as well as hard to find choice selections like ‘Carolina Sweetheart’ redbud, hardy Bulgarian Windmill Palm, and ‘Chocolate Fountain’ mimosa with it’s striking, dark purple foliage and sterile blooms. Limited quantities of the brand new, Photo by Star Roses & Plants creamy gold tipped ‘Kosmic

Kale’ will be available. Bred in Boskoop, Netherlands, this semi-hardy vegetable is beautiful enough to add to the flower garden and at the same time produces delicious and nutritious greens for your culinary pleasure.

A preview sale will be held on Friday, April 9, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. for all UT employees, Gardens volunteers, and UT Gardens members. Memberships can be renewed or purchased on Friday in order to attend the preview. An additional perk of Gardens membership is a 10% discount off plant sale purchases; that perk will apply during the Friday preview sale as well as during the public sale on Saturday.

Kosmic Kale

This hard to find perennial Kale is hardy to 10 degrees F and is a beautiful nutritious addition to the garden. It grows up to 3' tall and when winters are mild, it can live for years in the garden!

Chocolate Fountain® Mimosa

This mimosa is the only purple foliage weeping Silk Tree on the market. It is a small tree, well adapted to smaller spaces or containers. Grows up to 15-feet tall and wide. The fern-like deep purple foliage combined with the pendulous, weeping habit makes this a very special and unique plant. An added bonus is the delicate pink flowers that form in summer. Chocolate Fountain® is tough, trouble-free, and drought-resistant in the landscape.

Carolina Sweetheart™ redbud

A new tricolor variegated redbud which leafs out as a deep burgundy to bright pink-red. As the leaf matures to a rich green, a creamy white marginal variegation shows itself on the tree. New growth of pink-red to burgundy continues across the tree, giving this tree an excellent tri-color appearance. Even before the leaves pop out, gorgeous light pink flowers cover this vigorous growing tree. Carolina Sweetheart™ may reach 20-30 ft in height by 30ft in width. Nothing else on the planet like this!

Rising Sun™ Redbud

Abundant pea-like rosy-lavender flowers appear early spring before foliage. Heart-shaped deep apricot leaves appear and mature through shades of orange, gold and yellow with all colors present at once! Foliage turns a shade of lime green in the summer heat. Resists heat and burn. Grows 12-feet tall and wide.
