Dear Colleagues, As a follow up to tweets, Facebook postings, Dr. Li’s post, and the general euphoria of the EUReCA award ceremonies: The 21st Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EUReCA) was held April 17 – 21, 2017. In addition to divisional awards, projects judged to be the best overall are recognized with the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society Award, the William Franklin Harris III Undergraduate Research Award, the Sustainability Award, and the Office of Research and Engagement’s Undergraduate Research Excellence Award (gold, silver and bronze). Please find attached the published abstracts for the Undergraduate entrants. The Department of Geography had 6 entries by 7 undergraduate researchers that were guided by 4 faculty mentors including Drs. Micheline Van Riemsdijk (1), Kelsey Ellis (1), Yingkui Li (3), and Robert A. Washington-Allen (3). We (the students and involved faculty) acknowledge the support of the many including internal (e.g., Undergraduate Research Work Study and Fellowships) and external funding sources, but we would particularly like to thank Mr. Camponovo for his mentoring of undergraduates and arrangement of poster printing and further display. Now of the 6 entrants 5 won 7 awards, with two of the awardees: Mr. Clint Shannon and Mr. David Moore collaborating and entering two research projects in the Physical Science and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Divisions where they won 2 1st places and an Office of Research & Engagement Bronze Award in the College of Arts & Sciences.
