The Science, Engineering, and Social Science Libraries division of Columbia University Libraries (CUL) seeks a Collection Analysis Librarian who will analyze and assess collections in large academic research environment. This position will have responsibilities that include: analyzing use statistics, determining how new products are evaluated; assessing print, electronic and collection overlap; identifying digitization projects; as well as identifying collection sharing opportunities. This position has selection responsibilities for the Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy collections. In collaboration with the Associate Director of Assessment and Analysis, this position will participate and advise on collections assessment and analysis across the Columbia University Libraries. 

 

Reporting to the Head of Collection Development for Science & Engineering Libraries, the position participates in planning and marketing instruction, outreach, and special event programs in the Science, Engineering and Social Sciences Libraries. Develops, manages, and assesses print and digital collections to support research, teaching and learning. The Collection Analysis Librarian will create an organizational framework for developing (electronic) collections in a large research environment. The Collection Analysis Librarian participates in planning and marketing instruction, outreach, and special programs for the Social Sciences and Science and Engineering Division. The Collection Analysis Librarian participates in Library-wide initiatives, serves on committees and task forces, and will also take part in professional activities and organizations as appropriate. This position works with publishers and negotiates purchases, subscriptions, and renewals. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

- MLS or other advanced degree in the sciences or engineering or other appropriate discipline or equivalent 

- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communications skills 

- Ability to work effectively in teams 

- Commitment to public service and outreach 

- Strong data analysis skills 

- Ability to design marketing and outreach material: flyers, posters, brochures, etc. 

- Familiarity with core research resources in the sciences and engineering 

- An ability to clearly articulate ideas through excellent written and presentation skills 

- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

- Undergraduate or advanced degree in a science, engineering, or related discipline 

- Successful experience working in an academic or research intensive environment 

- Familiarity with emerging technologies and social media 

- Awareness of scientific research, data management, and scholarly communications trends, including open access publishing 

- Experience providing service and outreach in a technology-rich environment

- Experience managing complex projects
