Position Summary:
The Scholarly Communication Administrative Assistant provides operations support for scholarly communication initiatives at Virginia Tech Libraries. Responsibilities include working with remote constituents, for example, to enable access to restricted
materials in the institutional repository. Routine activities include ordering supplies; creating and updating spreadsheets and documentation; tracking data, compiling statistics, and generating reports; editing documents, papers, and reports; coordinating
events and training sessions; and providing public service for patron requests. Works with a variety of systems to enhance metadata, and structure data and content according to defined rules.
Required Qualifications:
- Administrative support experience in a professional office environment, including handling confidential and sensitive information
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro, and Google products
- Experience searching bibliographic databases
- Experience editing metadata and working in a digital library repository
- Highly organized and able to multi-task, manage priorities and maintain attention to detail
- High level interpersonal skills and professionalism with customer service and sensitivity to working in a multicultural setting
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness and ability to work a varied schedule according to special event schedules
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of VT library systems and technologies in libraries, including DSpace
- Experience in a research library environment
- Experience reconciling or tracking fiscal data
- Experience editing web pages (e.g.,
HTML)
- Experience with planning and coordinating events
- Experience with statistical software
