Geographic Information: Organization, Access, and Use

Abstract: Geographic information (GI) in the context of big data creates new avenues of research related to its organization, access, and use, which are outlined in the new Springer book (http://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783319227887). In this presentation, an overview of the background and present challenges facing the preservation of GI will be discussed as follows: 1) The roles of librarians, archivists, data scientists, and other information professionals in the creation of GI records for its organization, access, and use; and 2) The topics of geospatial data discovery, fitness for use, and meeting information needs will be discussed.
