Reese Library of Augusta University invites applications for the position of Access Services Librarian at the faculty rank of Instructor. The primary focus of this full-time, non-tenure track faculty position is to provide leadership for access services and is responsible for the overall management, planning, and supervision of the Access Services department in Reese Library. The position supervises seven full-time staff members, two part-time clerks, and student assistants.

 

The successful candidate will accomplish the following:

• Manage all aspects of the Access Services department, including circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, and stacks maintenance.

• Plan, develop, and enforce policies for Reese Library’s Information Desk, a shared service point in partnership with

Information Technology.

• Maintain high customer service standards and courteous conflict resolution with patrons.

• Collaborate with the Access Services department of Greenblatt Library.

• Compile and report statistics for institutional, state, and national reports.

• Serve as a liaison to one or more academic units.

• Alert faculty in liaison area(s) to library research tools, methods, resources, and services.

• Serve as first contact for research queries, including individual consultations for faculty and students in liaison area(s).

• Working with faculty in assigned liaison area(s), selects electronic and print sources to support the university’s

teaching and research mission.

• Participate in and make recommendations in collection evaluation projects.

• Participate in the weeding/withdrawal of items from the library’s collection.

• Develop and maintain online research guides for assigned liaison area(s).

• Actively engage in professional development by conducting scholarly research relevant to areas of responsibility,

contributing to the professional literature based on research results.

• Actively engage in service to the profession, university, and community, including committee service.

• Supervise seven full-time staff members, two part-time clerks, and student assistants.

 

Intra-Institutional Responsibilities:

The Access Services Librarian will serve as liaison librarian to one or more academic units and will serve on library and institutional committees as a faculty member.

 

Extra-Institutional Responsibilities:

The Access Services Librarian is expected to be active professionally in local, regional, and national associations and will contribute to the professional literature.

 

Requirements:

• American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master’s degree in library science.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

• Ability to work collaboratively in an academic community.

 

Preferred Requirements:

• Demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan for academic libraries.

• Demonstrated commitment to professional development through scholarly research relevant to areas of responsibility

including publications, presentations, and participation and leadership in professional associations.

• Understanding of learning management systems.

• Experience serving diverse communities.

• Prior experience working in an academic Access Services department in one or more areas of circulation, reserves,

and/or interlibrary loan.

• Prior experience in a supervisory role.

 

Salary and Benefits:

This position has faculty rank and status (non-tenure track). Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include a competitive health package, TIAA/CREF, and other retirement options. Salary range is $40, 000-$44,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
