Watershed Educator, Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute

Description

Advances the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute’s freshwater conservation science mission by teaching river enthusiasts, conservation partners, citizen scientists, and science teachers to be watershed advocates and stewards.  Implements partnerships with land trusts and ecotourism guides to enhance knowledge and protection of southeastern freshwater life.  Develops relationships with other educational and conservation organizations in the region to improve freshwater literacy. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Work with Conservation Director to determine target audiences and set educational priorities for those audiences to maximize educational value

2. Implement partnerships with land trusts to improve freshwater management on protected lands

3. Develop relationships with regional education and conservation organizations to improve freshwater literacy

4. Develop education programs for ecotourism guides to help them share knowledge of southeastern animals and conservation actions with their clients

5. Conduct professional development on watershed science, such as Project WET workshops or TNACI-based curricula, for high school science teachers

6. Expand high school and citizen science outreach in water quality monitoring through programs, such as Project WET or Georgia Adopt-A-Stream workshops

7. Assist TNACI science team with offering training for scientists on outreach techniques

8. Evaluate the success of education programs in reaching priorities and adjusts as needed
