I am offering Geog 541 course (Topics in Urban-Economic Geography) in SP 2017. While the flyer lays out some important topics/issues, I will take your/students' inputs on the first class to include other topics that may serve the larger purpose of most/all
enrolled, if it falls within the thematic focus of this course. This course is open to Graduates and upper-division undergraduates too (seniors and juniors) (no per-requisites). I believe the topics discussed in this class may be of interest to many of you.
Since this is a 500 level class, the teaching/model will mostly follow a seminar style -- readings intensive and discussions based classes. I do plan on having few short lectures as well -- 30-40 minutes to discuss the theories and concepts, at the beginning
of the class. I will include the latest/contemporary topics on social and economic inequality (and disparity/discrimination), with equal focus on the developed world and the developing world (
North American,
South Asian and African -- mostly urban and some rural/spatial issues too.
Best regards,
Madhuri
