"With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts" - Eleanor Roosevelt

"Power isn't control at all--power is strength, and giving that strength to others. A leader isn't someone who forces others to make him stronger; a leader is someone willing to give his strength to others that they may have the strength to stand on their own."

Subject: Vacancy job posting - R5 Deputy Assistant Regional Director (Fish and Aquatic Conservation)

(Please help me distribute this announcement broadly...thank you.  I encourage all interested to apply.)

We are in search of an exceptional Deputy ARD for the Fish and Aquatic Conservation (FAC) program, located in the Northeast Regional Office, Hadley, MA.  A great candidate will provide vision, guide regional and field staff to coordinate and execute FAC program management, have great supervisory skills, provide senior leadership, and be part of a highly collaborative and fun program.  We place a high value on diversity of people's opinions, thoughts, and approaches, and on the importance of interpersonal relationships.   Region 5 is an excellent place to work!

The following position is now available on USAJobs - Deputy ARD, GS-0480-14

Hadley, in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley of western Massachusetts, has a mix of rural flavor and easy access to big city amenities.  You will find here a reverence for history, a passion for participatory government, and a strong belief in the need for natural resource conservation.  Nearby Northampton is one of the best arts communities in the country.  Nationally known performers showcase their talents in area venues.  Literary giants Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost were home here, as are contemporary authors, entertainers and musicians.  Five prestigious colleges and several community colleges are close.  We have a partnership with the University of Massachusetts, whose buildings are visible from our office.  The 200-employee regional office is in a GSA-leased building, built in 1992 and recently refurbished.  You may see deer, turkeys, red-tailed hawks, great blue herons and the occasional bobcat or fisher from your office window.  A 9-mile-long bike path perfect for lunchtime runs or commuting is within walking distance.  The Connecticut River and many smaller rivers and lakes have boating and fishing, and Hadley is less than 2 hours’ drive from great downhill skiing.  Housing is a mix of newer and older homes ranging from urban condo living to rural farms, all within a half hour’s drive of the regional office.  In the spring, you can visit local "sugar shacks" to see how maple syrup is made, and in the summer, farm stands offer asparagus (nicknamed Hadley grass), sweet corn and other vegetables.  You can visit orchards and even pick your own apples in the fall.  New York City is 3 hours to the south, and Hadley is mid-way between Boston and Albany, both less than 2 hours away.  Sound idyllic?  Come and experience it for yourself!
